aki,

Re:... the fact is that GE's market cap is inflated... and that a great deal of Asian value is hidden because co's are run to maximise revenue and market share, but not profit

The question is at what point do asian companies become compelling buys? Some have D/E's of 400-600%!?!? This is akin to a house of cards so invest if you have the nerves. Most asian stockmarkets fell about 50% max, and this is after these horrible #'s are revealed. Compare those cos. with their American counterparts, who have stellar balance sheets with record cash, some with zero debt(AMAT D/E=9%). In addition, one must worry about currency translations when investing overseas. IMHO, the risk/reward ratio is nowhere near my threshold yet.

Aki, AMAT closes 1/8 from todays low of 29-7/8 on highish volume. Your thoughts on the divergence of AMAT with the Nasdaq today? And this in the face of positive comments from Morgan Stanley. hmmm.
