" Everyone who really wants one of these things already has one."

this statement is wrong. how can someone who hasn't even purchased a computer yet know whether they want a zip drive? plus, many new pc owners have yet to determine anything at all about removable storage. i owned my pc for a year and a half before i purchased my jaz drive.

"BTW, who are you?"

i'm someone who doesn't agree with what you are saying.

"Some advice: Think for yourself..."

if you want me to think for myself, why then are you giving me advice?

Ken, you said >Everyone who really wants one of these things already has one.<

Flaw in your thinking: people get older, young ones get
their first computer. They may want a ZIP in it. Even
some older, retired people get their first PC so they
can e-mail their grand children.

BTW: everyone who wants a new car already has one. So the
automobile business is going to die.<g>

You are making the common mistake of being too egocentric.
I make that mistake sometimes, too. Example: I already
know about the ZIP, so why are they advertising it?

But you were right in your recent assessment of IOM stock
movement.

Gottfried

>> To be successful (IMO) Iomega needed to be in about 40% of the boxes shipped by saturation phase. I estimate they are at 2-3% now. (I gave my derivation of this number back in October..). Therefore, the product failed<<

Where did you get that bit of marketing insight? Saturation phase is over and Zip has not reached 40% inclusion therefore it is dead? Since when is there a time limit on the saturation phase?

Your pronouncement of failure is a bit premature Mr. P. IOM's OEM inclusion rate is accelerating and therefore it is progressing toward saturation at a faster clip now. It is their business model that must adjust to keep up with current events.

Saturation is unlikely to occur until the price gets down around $35. If IOM's cost structure and business model are designed to be profitable at that price point then the rest will take care of itself.
