That was the funniest thing I have read, seen or heard in a long time. Only rivaled by the time my brother-in-law busted his hand when a cow's head got in the way of his fist. He tried to pull a Mongo but he forgot he wasn't Mongo.

I got to spend alone time with both my kids on Father's Day. I had the baby in the congregation at Mass while my wife sang with the choir and our 4 year old took me to the Cardinals' game. He got to run the bases after the game. Nothing beats being a dad.

McAlex, the Golden Arches of hummingbirds,

Poor little guy! Can you imagine what a rude shock that was? He probably saw what looked to him like a veritable fountain of liquid honey! The Hummingbird Promised Land! He approaches, half expecting to see the amber rainbow shimmer and disappear, a mirage in the afternoon sunlight. But no, it remains before him, tantalizing him with its heady sparkle. CLoser, closer, he dips his little beak into the warm stream, expecting to sip sweet nectar, only to find his dream choked off by a nasty acidic influx of.....
I weep for his disillusionment.
A perfect metaphor for our lives.

Makes me think of the time I drank from the beer can with the ashes on it.

When Kirsten was about 3, a ruby-throated hummingbird built a nest about 18" from one of the windows in our house. She (I think it was a she) labored for 2 full days making this pouch-like contraption, and then laid 3 eggs in it. Kirsten and I watched the whole thing from start to finish.

There is a spot in Angeles National Forest, Mt. Wilson, where the rangers have set up about 100 feeders. You can see at least 3 different kinds of hummingbirds, hundreds at one time. I never studied them much, but the one I recall Kirsten liked the best was all gold, like a pure gold bird.
