I bought a little CMP last fall at 10 and bought huge all the way down to under $6, ending up with a huge position with an average basis of about $7.50 and took profits at 11. Averaging down isn't always bad when you understand a company and the market doesn't. This is a typical example. You say the stock may get hit big because some short sighted day traders don't have the patience to wait around a while for a triple? I say that is a great time to average down, ie when a stock gets taken down by people that don't understand the fundemantals of investing.
