Dale, re:Celeron - Francis delivered an interesting PC Week interview with Paul Otellini.

PC Week: Going back to the low end, are you happy with the initial
acceptance of the Celeron chip?

Otellini: Yeah. People are always surprised when Intel brings out
something that's not the highest-performance thing that ever walked
God's earth. We expected it to take a while to burn a brand into the
consumer psyche.
We learned that with Pentium, Pentium Pro and
Pentium II. Getting it out early, well before consumer cycles start up
again, was critical to us in terms of establishing brand. If we'd waited
until September or October to launch the first product, people wouldn't
know what the Celeron was.

Hmmm - 266MHz Celeron as a gambit? Intel gets everyone into a huff so that with Mendicino for Christmas, everybody goes ecstatic. Sort of like when the pain stops it feels like pleasure. <g>

What a company...

Jeff
