Andy, I think they're hurting badly. They couldn't compete on the low margin end and their chip is too expensive to compete for OEM sockets. The Rev. 3D is going on. The next-gen is close. The generation after may never get here. SGI can't keep these guys alive by themselves...they just might end up buying them outright. My best contacts have left the company.

Micron just bought Rendition. They talked seriously with #9 about 8 months ago. If you put the DRAM on chip you can have extremely wide data buses, (no i/o pins). I suspect that Rendition can do the same things but with smaller die area. Micron will push for a Socket X graphics standard and then crush everyone on pricing. They can already build DRAMs cheaper than enyone.

#9 has good silicon design, good software but no control over their destiny.
