E-Trade seems to have this thing about disavowing responsibility even when not necessary. I just lost an opportunity when their system lost an order. I put in a simple market order, got a transaction number, but the order just disappeared. Then I made an e-mail inquiry about the procedure for me to take in such a case. In reply the service rep was so focused on trying to shift blame on me that she forgot to answer my question. So I still don't know what to do when they lose orders.
