This World Cup is shaping up to be the most exciting in years! What a Norway result! Just imagine: there is a chance that BOTH Brazil and Germany are put out in the first game of the second round. Now that would be a shocker, but Chile has shown it can play, beating Italy until the last 10 minutes, and the Germans, if they don't beat Iran convincingly, could end up second in their group, and be put out by Holland.

A note about Holland: I am a dual national, born in the U.S. but my family is old Amsterdam. I spend half the year there. I have to say I am glad Holland did not end up playing the U.S. in the second round - it would have been wrenching. I admit I have been enthusiastic in my support for "Oranje," but this team is better than they have had in years - better even than the '88 European Champions, with Van Basten, Gullit and Rijkaard. They displayed that against S. Korea, and I think they'll show the same against Mexico. They are easily by far the deepest team in this Cup. When star striker Kluivert returns, the question is: Where does he play?

In spite of this, I have been getting this sinking feeling that Holland may be thrice-cursed by the time this Cup is over. Please do not let them go down in the final to another host nation! We haven't waited twenty years for that!

I just want to let you know that you are doing a great
job with the WC here on SI.

Well, nikko, thank you for the compliment, it is appreciated, but remember that it is everyone participating in good spirits, and having fun.... that really makes the thread great.

Be controversial but be civil about it....

Now, George, if I was Argentinean (or Italian), at this time I would say something along the lines of Alberto Tomba's [in]famous words:

There are no words to compliment me today.....

I better lay off of them otherwise Ronaldo (and the lurkers from Boca), may cyber-mug me or something.... Who knows, they may become World Champions in this cup.

Besides, I really want to visit their country I think it is a beautiful one, good food, good wine, beautiful women... too bad the Argentineans live there..... NO, NO, JUST KIDDING, JUST KIDDING, come on, can not take a joke.... do not be so serious about it......
