Motorola CIG Sale of 50,000 Fixed Wireless Terminals to
India's Tata Lucent is Biggest Ever

SINGAPORE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 24, 1998--Motorola, Inc.'s Cellular Infrastructure
Group (CIG) today announced the industry's largest sale ever -- 50,000 units -- of fixed wireless
terminals (FWT) to Tata Lucent Technologies Ltd. of India, a joint venture between Tata
Teleservices and Lucent Technologies. The announcement was made during the 1998 CDMA
World Congress, the industry's annual conclave being held here this week.

The devices -- the Motorola CIG CDMA WiLL(R) 800SC FWT -- will be used to connect Tata
Teleservices subscribers to Tata Lucent 800 Mhz CDMA wireless local loop systems in Hyderabad
and Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh initially and eventually throughout all of Andhra Pradesh.
CDMA, or code division multiple access, is a digital wireless technology used globally by more than
13 million subscribers.

Using state-of-the-art digital technology, Motorola CIG's CDMA WiLL 800SCs provide dial tone
and multiple-extension connections at a subscriber's residence or place of business. Traditional and
cordless phones, answering machines, fax machines, PCs and laptop computers, and even pay
phones and public calling offices can be connected to an 800SC without special adapters.

The 800SCs provide wireline quality far below the cost of wireline infrastructure, while maintenance
costs are held in check by Motorola CIG technology that allows for remote, wireless equipment
diagnostics and downloads of operational software. In addition, Motorola CIG's 800SCs are
impervious to the wide fluctuations in voltage input typically found in the region where the units will
be deployed.

''Motorola CIG is pleased to have been selected by Tata Lucent to provide the finest in fixed
wireless terminal technology,'' said Anders Gustafsson, executive director and general manager of
Motorola CIG's European Cellular Infrastructure Group. ''We are very happy to be associated
with Lucent and look forward to a long working relationship,'' he added.

Motorola CIG also plans to establish an in-country service center in Bangalore. When opened later
this year, the center will help to enhance customer service by providing across-the-table FWT
replacements.

Motorola, Inc. is one of the world's leading providers of wireless communications, semiconductors,
and advanced electronic systems, components and services. Motorola's 1997 sales were $29.8
billion.

Thanks. This is telling it like it is - in spades. Like WOW. And given Reed Hundt's background and credentials even Republicans should applaud the thrust of the speech. :-) Very very refreshing. While long, a must read - or it that Reed. Future brighter today with the CDMA Singapore Conference and this speech is a fine keynote. All just IMO of course. Chaz

Jim, true enough, by and large Reed Hundt's talk saves me some typing. But his lecturing the world, right though he mostly is, has a faint odour to it when the USA is barely on the "FREE TRADE" trail. In fact the USA enthusiastically supports all sorts of trade barriers.

For example they won't let NZ sell various products in the USA for no other than vested interest protection reasons. They are holding on to oil export prevention against Iraq until Iraq complies with some specious UN resolutions. The UN has little legitimacy, being a crony organisation, unelected, with a discriminatory constitution acting in this case to maintain high oil prices to the benefit of the oil industry. In particular, the oil exploration and production industry. And the gas producers, coal producers, and nuclear energy fraternity.

Why? Because they found some 9 year old remnants of VX on some warheads. Well, I dare say that if we look around, we'll find a few neutrons popping around India, Pakistan, China, France, Britain, USA, Israel, Russia, maybe South Africa, maybe Iran [you think they've been asleep since Jimmy Carter wallied a raid and crashed some planes in the desert]. Not to mention a few poisons you might find in a few weapons owned by UN member states. The sanctions are not for the purported reasons - they are to keep the oil supply down. Use the test for international actions = WHO BENEFITS? That will give very good answers as to why things happen. Also use Occam's Razor = the simplest complete answer is probably the right one.

So while I welcome Reed Hundt's tract, I don't think the rest of the world will simply have a revelatory experience [or is it an epiphany] and discover that crony capitalism, National Socialism, Nationalism, Patriotism, Kleptocracy, or outright thuggery have less appeal than before.

The price of oil is higher than it need be. The price of telecommunications is WAY higher than it need be.

But there is a clear trend.

Also, a government's job is not to create jobs. [One of his points for governments]. A government's job is to protect people and enforce contracts.

Ironic that he makes such a speech as NextWave's bankruptcy statement goes live in cyberspace.

And to acknowledge Pierre, Big Brother is watching you Pierre!! I'm his agent - even before you think it we have you taped - HAAahahaaahaaa!!! [Ed: That's a maniacal laugh]. The international wireless/wired intelligence Hundt speaks of could be quite suppressive of individuals who don't subscribe to the conventional wisdom of the single, omnipresent, omniscient, all being and permitting, undying and self-generating WWW. Scary eh Pierre? You won't need a driving licence, just a cdma2000 implant. HAAahaahahaahaha!!!!

Sure it is a hope for glory. But many will see the possibility for universal suppression. The dichotomy of good and evil is an eternal one. Bigger it seems than the dichotomy between the internal reality of Qualcomm and its external perception. Adjusted today in favor of Qualcomm by 8%!

Okay, rant over and out,
Mqurice

23.14159 million cdmaOne worldwide subscribers by the end of the year [watch the analogs in the USA die like flies].
Dow 16000 Feb 2002

PS: Incidentally Pierre, I see you haven't yet got your correct driver's licence. This is concerning and I am consulting WWW about your future.

Curious. Given Reed Hundt's FCC Chairman past does anyone here know if he has a real job now, and if so, what is it? No connection with CDMA I assume. :-) . Chaz
