Darren re: "INTC has no need to go into this area (sic, lo-end PC's). It's a fad."
Amazing!
The fastest growing segment is a fad?
30% of PC's now sold in Germany are sub-0's is a fad?
Intel introduces Celeron in response to a fad?
Intel introduces socket 470 to reduce the cost of Celeron in response to a fad?
Intel intro's Mendocino for sub-0's is a fad? (See their roadmap).
Major superstores are selling out because of a fad? (I know of Computer City and a major one in Germany, probably just the beginning as margins drop).
Out of curiosity, when does this fad end? And why is Intel doing this?

Sub $1000 is a fad? I watched Bruce Francis this week on CNN and he did a segment on the growth of the sub category and said prices would continue to drop and the segment would continue to grow....explain why someone at home that uses basic spread sheets, needs internet access and a word program needs to go back to a $2000 PC, especially when these boxes are getting faster and offering more all the time.
