Rob,

The other option for Intel competitors is to add value to the CPU. Cyrix has done this with the MediaGX which essentially throws in the chipset, audio and graphics for "free."

When someone comes out with a fully featured integrated CPU, they will be hard to compete against. Unfortunately, it looks like Intel may be the first to hit that market with Mendocino/Whitney. The saving grace for their competitors will be that Intel will probably opt to keep their margins up and stay out of the very low end. Intel probably doesn't want to compete in the 10% margin arena.

In order to compete in the desktop market it is becoming increasingly critical to provide megahertz (at the high end) or integration (at the low end.)
