The market maker has to report the trade and he reports the position as short. Unforutnately again you hit another soft spot. On listed companies short interest is reported and if the short interest is beyond I believe its 10% of the float you would see a code on your nasdaq terminal that reads UPC71 which means that this stock has a significant short position. But again this does not hold true for BB stocks.
