Optus signs A$250 mln Digital deal

SYDNEY, June 25 (Reuters) - Optus Communications Pty Ltd said on Thursday it has signed a A$250 million five-year outsourcing contract with a unit of Digital Equipment Corp.
Optus, the nation's second-ranked telecoms group providing mainly long distance and international calls, said Digital Operations Management Services would manage its two data centres, network systems infrastructure, help desk, desktop and production support.

Optus is 49 percent owned by Cable and Wireless Plc (quote from Yahoo! UK & Ireland: CW.L) and is attempting to win market share from telecoms leader Telstra Corp Ltd (TLSCA.AX). The two companies are also rivals in the pay television industry.
