Development costs were expensed. That was what Sherlock's purported "complaint" was all about -- he couldn't find the development costs as a depreciable asset on the financial statement -- of course not, since they were EXPENSED. Needless to say, Price Waterhouse did the right thing -- ALYA now has a credit against future taxable profits for the amounts expended.

P.S. MSFT has a mere $240 billion in uncapitalized intangibles including development expense priced into its market valuation. This is the way it's done.
