Zydacron to supply video codec boards for teleconferencing to PictureTel. They list for $1995 each (ouch!) ...... Zydacron's codecs win a place in PictureTel's conferencing systems By Stephan Ohr MANCHESTER, N.H. - Zydacron Inc. will make video codec boards for PictureTel Corp. under a contract thought to be worth about $10 million. Zydacron's OnLAN 350 boards are expected to revitalize what has become a lackluster desktop-videoconferencing business for PictureTel (Danvers, Mass.). "This is a marriage of the industry's best desktop technology with the industry's best distribution channel," said Andrew Davis of the Wainhouse Consulting Group. The boards, based on Lucent Technologies' AVP video codec, deliver up to 30 CIF frames (320 x 288 pixels) per second on 128-kbit/s ISDN lines. Many consider them "top-of-the-line" for picture quality and reliability. "I think they'll do pretty well [with our boards]," said a happy Seymour Friedel, Zydacron chief executive officer.
