Tom, thanks for your respones. "Always On" sounds pretty neat, as I do find it a pain in the patootie to go through the connecting process (I particularly like the bizarre screaching sounds emitted by the old modem as it searches for god knows what).
However, it seems to me that your theory about Ma Bell going the wired route in order to maximize their chances at the killer app and retaining rights to whatever remained stuck on the wall is just about right on. Look at Gates spread his bandwidth bets: he's got billion dollar chips on the come line with satellites, WebTV, cable modems, and damned near everything else that has a 1/2 way legitimate claim to get more b/w to the old surfer's den. Why should T be any different?
Kind of wild that even billionaire geeks and Ma herself don't know which horse to ride. Sure would have been nice to see them throw a little more dinero in the wireless direction though. Mike Doyle
