A split doesn't increase the float initially but overtime it leaves more available..

as those split sell.

I was long ago taught by a topnotch broker that announcmt of 2/1 split is an implicit statement by the company's executives that they regard 100% growth in earnings in the offing 10-18 months out. That is why stocks move up afterwards, not to mention hype and momentum.
