Digital TV grows.............................................

dailynews.yahoo.com

The research said 12 million homes around the world had digital television at the end of 1997 with around 11 million more joining them by the end of 1998.

"Ninety-five percent of households have chosen to receive digital TV via a direct-to-home (DTH) satellite service, with only five percent choosing a digital cable service," Strategy Analytics said in a statement.

"But ... cable will begin to catch up rapidly. Most cable operators are only just beginning to market digital services, and by 2005 117 million homes worldwide will be receiving digital TV from their cable operator.

"The satellite market, however, will also continue to grow rapidly, reaching 145 million households by 2005."
