Steve: Re - GM

Yup! Got a similar figure in mind. Figure that one of these days the company will officially warn that they are not going to meet the estimates for the quarter, or the big analysts will downgrade their expectations. Have a hard time believing that folks figured this strike into the earnings estimates.

Since this puppy is more than paying for my other July sins, went out last weekend and looked at the issues. Really interesting. Seems some idiot at GM long-ago agreed to work rules that specified a minimum production target. Net effect, the employee can produce their required shift production in 5 hrs and gets paid overtime for the other 3 hours. Average employee compensation is $69K.

Then the GM idiots agreed to dump $300M into upgrading the facility. It finally dawned on someone that, without a change in the work rules, a more efficient plant was only going to equal more overtime.

Clearly, the UAW knew want button to push to bring things to a screeching halt. But, since GM would be paying everyone vacation for the first two weeks of July, neither side is in a hurry to settle. In the meantime -- go GM puts.

Re: the internet. The last figure I saw was that only 12% of computers were connected and the number connected was doubling every 90 days. Absolutely staggering what impact this is going to have on the way we do business in the future. However, the FA side of me just cannot deal with the valuations.

Again, I came in too late. Had G targeted last night. What a nice run that puppy made. A bunch of shares (about 1700) are still waiting for BEL to take off. I hate seeing the Sto go up and the price flat (UGH!). But it looks like the DIS exit was great!
