Yes, thanks, Sean. I read your earlier post and it agreed
with my assessment (or I agreed with yours, whichever way
you want to read it -- maybe this should be a day marked
on the calendar for agreement<G>. Rare enough).

Dell is probably a bit upscale for one of these (a cousin)
but not necessarily for the other (my daughter). I have
had bad experience with Dell in the past, but it was a
long time ago and maybe they've improved. Also I have
an old company Dell in my basement going strong after
6 or 7 years; a pain in the butt to reconfigure, but
it does speak well of the basic product. Still,
I'd have to know more about recent experiences people
have had with them to go back. I don't want to put
ANYBODY I know into proprietary designs.

My concern about Micron is financial. Will they
be around for their warrantee? What about friendly
tech support for aging mac converters?

Gateway used to deliver machines difficult to
upgrade, often with special OEM components (e.g.,
ATI video cards) for which you couldn't download the
manufacturer's drive updates. On the other hand,
when something goes wrong, they replace it and
even anticipate problems (such as the WDC 1.6 gig
disks that failed all over the lot).

So I'm up in the air. Looking for specifics.

Thanks for your input.

Regards,

Spots

PS. We agree about compaq & pb (though my info is heresay).
I don't know about Acer but am willing to take your word for it.
I will look into returns.
