Maybe someone who is in the union can explain this to me:

Are certain jobs (car assembly worker, airline pilot, etc.) so mundane that there is no way to distinguish yourself and "get ahead"? The idea and premise of an union seems to be that "we are all alike; our capabilities are equal; we will share the reward equally; the group's interest is above the individual's interest no matter what."

Looking at the striking factory workers on TV, I can't help but notice that most of these workers are middle-aged, beer-bellied male who are really proud of crippling the company that gives them their livelihood. The image of dinosaurs roaring and looking up in the skies full of exploding asteroids falling onto Earth floats in my mind....

All I feel is pity without the slightest bit contempt.
