"On another note, my broker mentioned something yesterday that was supposedly said during the annual meeting. It was something about the MKII not being optimized for STORAGE applications, but that it would be by years end. Did he get his wires crossed, and really mean LAN applications? Was anybody at the annual meeting that could clear this up?" Craig, As you know, I was at the shareholders' meeting and it was LAN applications. I agree with you that if there was a major glitch, the OEMs would have pulled out much earlier in the qualification process. I think that both you and Tom G. have posted that you thought a likely alternate hypothesis was also Brocade's ability to lower their bid due to better financing and a current income stream. After all if the FC cycle is longer than expected, what better way to get rid of Ancor? The more information that comes out, the more evidence seems to accumulate that Ancor indeed has the technology - but they were hindered by their bias in the area of class 1. I would like to see some articles like the InfoStor article on the MKII. Reflecting on the InfoStor article, leads me to reflect on an earlier thought I had about the FC market. The size of the data farm described in that article was huge. If all that data can be backed up with a few 3rd generation switches - what kind of a market can there be? In a related matter, only 15% of the high performance disk storage shipped next year will be FC. Granted you can connect SCSI disks, but this is further evidence the learning curve has a long and flat slope. Finally, has anyone visited the SI or Yahoo Sequent threads lately? It is not pretty.
