[However, Intel's technical documentation shows current-generation Pentium IIs are plagued by a variety of problems that surface during unusual operating conditions. Some of the more interesting bugs, or errata, show up in multiprocessing configurations.]

Buckwheat,

Thanks for the information. Intel did have an appropriate response when asked about errata during the introduction of the PII awhile back. The Intel spokesman when asked about the errata said it is essentially unavoidable due to the complexity of the microprocessors. All one can do is continue to fix them once they are found. When asked why the errata seems to be afflicting only Intel's chips, he responded Intel is the only chip company to document and publish errata problems after they are detected.

In a perfect world you would like to see a guarantee against errata, but given we live in an imperfect world, it seems Intel continues to be the best alternative.

It is sort of like what Winston Churchill said about democracy. "Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the others."
