Maxwell, how do you know how much Intel is paying a fresh out-of-school PhD? Do you have connections into the humans remain department of Intel or something?

You also mentioned the cap for a process engineer is $100K/year. Maybe an very good automotive engineer in Detroit area would be better off. Do you know a few good engineers who would not mind to take residence in Detroit area? The big three pay really big bucks for a top notch engineer nowadays. Of course, managers make slightly more.

Philosophically, do you think a manager should deserve a higher pay than the engineers working under him/her who knows more about the system? Through out Time Traveler's many careers, Time Traveler kept encountering managers with no more knowledge than Time Traveler itself. That is these managers were the just pay-check signers not supervisors. The managers are not downward worthy, for example, from Bill Jackson's posts.

VTSS has a niche market in GaAs, but AMCC only doing CMOS is competing against them. Another company ANAD also doing GaSa is also competing against VTSS. With the recent run-up of VTSS, the Street must see VTSS as the superchamp of the crowd.
