RE: Compaq consciously slowing down their sales volume in order to use up existing channel inventory

This report deals with retail sales. As I have said to Chuz and Jim Kelly, the inventory problem CPQ was dealing with was commercial sales, not retail. Also, the retail (consumer) products are backlogged and have been for a long time so the 'channel inventory' here is hard to understand. I suspect that the writer of this report is also having trouble understanding the different distribution methods for CPQ's consumer and commercial lines.
