Jonathan, That brings up an interesting competition issue. B&N and other outfits that have brick and mortar operations in a state are obligated to collect sales tax on mail order sales to that state. Outside of sale within Washington, which I seem to recall doesn't have a sales tax, Amazon has no obligation to collect other state's sales taxes.

Now, the individual buyers are obligated to file a "use tax" return with their state and pay the tax, but how many people do you know that are even aware of this, much less comply with the law? -vbg-

So this should give AMZN a bit of an edge when cut throat pricing starts.
