Thanks, JRH. I look forward to your visiting the VoIP thread more often, too.

I suppose you're right about the difference being at the upper levels, although 'someone' had to reach the decisions to at least hire the newer breed of individuals.

Something has occurred to me recently that I'm sure will play strategically into this race of the Titans, and that is the venue in which future standards developments are made, and which venue will yield the most influential impact to the industry as a whole.

If it is the IETF, then CSCO has tremendous clout, with LU lagging a bit. If it is the ITU, it's the other way around, with LU clearly coming out on top. Right now telephony RFCs and ITU Recommendations are floating around in each of these respective halls of flame, some of them working in unison, and some of them working at cross purposes.

Will the ITU open its arms and embrace the new IP life forms of telephony, or will it too continue to conduct business in the same-o same-o bureaucratic manner, with its every-four-year plenaries as usual?

Do you or anyone else have any further thoughts on this aspect of the race?

Regards, Frank C.
