Just found this headline ... haven't found much more to the story yet.

Space controllers say they've lost contact with an important $1 billion satellite. It's called SOHO and has been observing the sun since 1995. "There is a real fear that we won't get it back," said one scientist.

I know the SOHO is not a communications satellite, but this is just more evidence about the difficulty of dealing with satellites and why PLFM is a very viable and cost-effective alternative.
