TD, Oh right. Forgot about Scopus. Now your numbers make sense to me.

Fortunately this industry isn't subject to "gorilla" dynamics. Geoffrey Moore tells a good story which is very relevant to product-based competition in a well-defined space. I believe it is more appropriate to think of companies like VNTV, CLFY, and even SEBL as more service-oriented companies in which customer intimacy is as important as "product" leadership.

VNTV's response ought to be to emphasize the breadth of their customer base (as compared to SEBL), which demonstrates VNTV's ability to create long-term happy customers and means lower risk going forward. Also, the SFA market is a younger market than service and support, and growing faster. It was vital for VNTV to be able to stake a claim in this market. Sooner or later SEBL will have to turn to the mid-market for future growth. Can VNTV move up faster than SEBL can move down? Either way, there is clearly room for both in this exploding industry. Witness PSFT, BAANF, SAP, JD Edwards, etc. in ERP. It's not a winner-take-all dynamic.
