I had to come back to return my Hauppauge WinTV. What a piece of ****. Ridiculously complex installation procedure ... which ended up not working anyway under either 98.1691 -or- 98 Final -or- NT4.

Orchid R3D 12M -- looks like about 3 sold since the last log.

Creative 3DB 12M -- OVER 100 in stock. It does look like they either sold a bunch or moved them to make room for a new shipment which has 3 bundled games. Same SKU on their tag however ... confusing -- typical Fry's BS. These are $249.

Diamond M3D2 12M -- about the same as before. BTW, I was wrong, the price has NOT dropped. Still $299 for the 12M.

Bad news: Diamond Stealth G460 -- the i740 board -- was sold out here.

Several of both 8 and 12M versions of both Diamond and Creative. Bad news: while there was a pile of Voodoo boards, nearly all the other boards were sold out. On the flip side, anybody coming in this store for a video card will have to settle for a Voodoo 2. <g>

James Nickel, I ,ve just been had for $700 by junior TA! Let me explain. Junior has v1 4 MB Diam card. He's been bugging me for 4 weeks to give him my newly acquired Diam 8 MB card. Finally a surrendered , gg. He's been playing for one week at friends' cottage up north and said that yes the V2 is "allright" on Ultima but " not as good as it should be". Sometimes frames are too slow. He said that what he'd really like are 2 Diamond V2 s in SLI. OK I relented and we went out to Best Buy. I looked around and asked to report to thread.
-80% of shelf space is taken up by TDFX products.
-TDFX is fastest selling chip.
Diam V8MB and V12 MB are the biggest sellers.
-they accidentally over ordered 150 sets of ?Power VG 12 MB ( I hope I have this right ) and they are selling them like cup cakes at $190, but you get $30 rebate.

So he gets 2 Diam V 12 MB ( marked still at $ 299 each; no price reduction; and we go to cash register and then he changed his mind. His 1 year old comp from Falcon NW ( PII 300 ) won't take 2 Voodoo cards unless he gets rid of the sound card. He said, " well I could get a Quantum 24 MB single card but that is $700 and I only got 300.Maybe what I'll do is wait for Intel's new mother board and PII 400 or 450 and start from there.

I said, " but by then son it will be school year again and your summer will be gone! ". He hesitated. We went back and forth for 10 min. Finally I relented. OK I said you did well in school I'll pay for the most of the Quantum card.

So we went home and called Falcon NorthWest Computers to order Quantum V 24 MB. : They are out of it and it's back orders. Will take 2 weeks to get it. So we ordered it. Junior is in 7th heaven.

So left alone I am thinking: Where is the market saturation of TDFX alleged to by Monty and Pierre X? I don't see it. Then I look at the hottest selling item, Voodoo cards:

shopper.com

If market is saturated shouldn't they be falling to 5th place or at the very least 2nd?

And then I look at stock activity. Yesterday between 2 - 4 PM only 30 000 shares sold,
( 305000 -- ~ 335000 ). ( I don't have level II as somebody asked; just good old fashi0ned simple tape watching, and reading the paper on the side, gg ). So people aren't getting rid of the stock I think.

My take on all this is:

_ TDFX has been under attack by naysayers and people that don't understand the gaming market and what hard core gamers feel like about getting the fastest card at any price.
-TDFX is still king.
-TDFX has been under attack by short sellers who may be responsible of up to 80+ % of the volume of the daily volume of this stock.
-these are the same folks probably who bought TDFX to begin with.
-their purpose is to shake off the guys that bought it at > than $18 - 20 last 6 months.
-their purpose has been largely achieved .
-TDFX appears to be consolidating in the 15 - 16 area.
-it is possible that after July 4th slow time TDFX will start moving back up to 20 in expectation of great eps.
-if eps is great, we could see a short term short-squeeze to $ 30.

All IMHO,

TA
