Steve,

Perhaps every American should have that type of training. I shot my first gun when I was 8. It was my Dad's 12 ga. with buckshot loaded. Shortly after my father picked my butt up off the ground I discovered a new respect for the power that is wielded from a gun. As an adult that power becomes a tool. I have hunted with that tool as well as defended my life with that tool against rattlesnakes. It has become a deterrent to crime as well whether anti-gunners wish to admit it or not. I have heard it said that in the larger cities you always have to wonder whether a person is carrying a gun. In the country you simply assume they are carrying a gun.

I don't know the details of what you are going through right now but the it sounds intense to say the least and I wish you well. I do believe that the knowledge of civilian gun ownership is very much a deterrent to more government intervention than there already is.

Several months ago I wrote to the Militia of Montana just out of curiosity to try to help decide for myself what the truth was behind some of the media attacks. What I found was an organization that has been hounded by many attacks. I learned that they not only teach firearms safety and survival techniques but also organize food drives for the working poor. They volunteer their services to help build and improve better living conditions and promote community involvement in the interest of a better life for themselves and their neighbors. I have no affiliation with them but had promised them information that they could put in their newsletter on money saving tips for their members and different savings techniques that I read about. I am sorry to say that I have not fulfilled that promise yet but still intend to when I get more time. I don't know how well they live up to the standards they preach but I did like what they preached and it was not the bigotry that the media would have everyone believe. That is what it is all about to me. Neighbor helping neighbor. People like this don't need government subsidies or help nor do they want it. The spirit that laid birth to this country is still alive and well in spite of the ignorance that seems to run rampant.
