One death in 100,000 might be insignificant to you but just let the numbers keep going up over time and when the lawsuits follow let the jury decide how much each death is going to cost Pfizer. If OJ could get away with murder, certainly a class action lawsuit of grieving widows and their families will cost billions. And when the opthalmology studies of chronic Viagra use proves that retinal degeneration does indeed occur then that will cost much much more than the death cases. I suggest you sell your Pfizer now since you can always buy it back under 100 in the near future. Go ahead and bash my opinions--lets just see how everything looks over the next 3 to 6 months.

I agree that the number of deaths is statistically insignificant, however, personal injury lawyers and TV news shows with their junk science won't see it that way.

Look at the big asbestos in buildings scam and the way the government intervened. How about breast implants? No solid proof that they caused problems, yet lots of lawsuits and lost money for Dow. The number of children and old people killed by airbags in the passenger side is less than one hundred over a several year period, yet we read about this PROBLEM regularly on the front pages of the paper. The government interferes with auto manufacturer's ability to install an on/off switch and a customer's ability to remove the airbag.

The link between Viagra and death does not need to be real for Pfizer to suffer.

"The reports of 30 deaths is not a controlled study; it is possible that the 30 men would have died anyway."

Most certainly, as this is less than the natural death rate. If more people don't die with Viagra in their systems, then we have a very wonderful medication that not only helps men with a problem that has been very difficult to treat prior to Viagra, but also decreases the death rate.

At this point, the deaths by themselves do not mean anything. The percentage of deaths of people taking Viagra is lower than the natural death rate. There has been no cause and effect shown. Chances are, those people would have died without Viagra, except for the few that erroneously combined Viagra with nitrates.
