Agree on all your points but Beckham was just plain DUMB to retaliate. He had seen the refs attitude. It is a shame that such a wonderfully contested game should turn on poor refing. Owens goal was nothing short of brilliant. Martin Down but proud of the way England played.

Loki, Loki "George...This was the best match so far..." YES BY FAR!!! "A lot of credit goes to both teams (none to the referee)" Yes. I disagree on the referee. I was sooo tense just watching this game on TV in USA, can you imagine being him? This was the MOST difficult game to call, and he did a good job IMO. "Beckham did not deserve the red card after he was pushed down and then received a knee in his back. In response, I saw intent but no, or little, contact from Beckham." I disagree. He deserved a red card for retaliating in such an obvious fashion in FRONT of the referee. That showed that he "lost" it. In my book there is no justification for "loosing" it (just like Kluivert). They are professional and they should not do such unprofessional things. Beckham should have taken care of the Argentinian guy who was stepping on him in a "professional" way during the play, like going for the ball or something, catch my drift? "A yellow card would have been sufficient." If he had given to both players yellows noone would have complained probably. "Campbell scored what should have been the winning goal. No foul on Shearer." I know I had predicted it! I screamed Goal the loudest so far and I woke up my son upstairs!!!But replays clearly showed that Shearer was all over the goalie. Then again, all night the Argentinians were all over him too. "The referee decided much of the complexion of this game. The red card changed the dimension of the game which would have been even more exciting." I agree. The red card cost the English the game because with 11 men they would not defend so much and Owen would have gotten the opportunity to get away much more. The kid is a terrorist!! "For Argentina this must be a bitter sweet victory." To me both teams are victors today. "What promised to be one of the most exciting games of WC's was changed by the referee. It became a valiant effort for both teams." Come on, let's be fair. The biggest mistake he made was give England the penalty for Owens' brilliant dive. (payback for the hand of God?) "Congratulations to both teams...the best teams don't always move to the next rounds." Maybe so, it was just sad to have these two teams play so early in the Cup. Sad to see England go, they deserved to be in the Final 8 for sure. Instead we got the Geriatric Club, the streaky Danes and the "can't believe we are here" Croatians! Both teams today came to win. Teams do that by attacking. Sad to see the red card which caused one team to defend more than usual. But what a joy to see this game. Respectfully of course, George Loki

Wow...what a game. I agree Beckham should not have been shown the red - a yellow definitely. However, the referee was certainly within his right to show the red. It is Beckham's fault for losing his cool and putting his status in the hands of the referee. Very unprofessional. It is obvious from some of the officiating that the players more than ever need to keep their cool and not even give the referees an opportunity to make such a decision. As far as the goal that was called back, I think Shearer got his elbow up. Not only that, he was challenging the keeper in the air within the 6 yard box. That's a no-no. It was a nice header from Campbell though. Additionally, Englands's PK should not have been. Owen dove. So, it all evened out as far as I'm concerned. As soon as I saw Battie step up for Englands's 5th penalty I knew they were in trouble. Too bad Le Saux couldn't have gone the whole way. He may have been a better selection to take a penalty. All in all a great match. Now Argentina have to face Holland. Ouch! What a tough road Argentina will have to the final. Great teams all the way from the second round through the end. If they do win it they surely will deserve to be champions. One more thing: Owen is the REAL DEAL. Great young star. Take care everyone, Gary
