W, my interests lie along those lines as well.

I take issue with the gun nut argument that guns are needed to "protect against a totalitarian government."

First of all, we don't have one, and certainly don't have the climate for one. I'm sure the Republican Congress would simply roll over and let Bill Clinton play soldier without a peep. Unless you fear a Republican president taking office. Then I see your point.

Simple observation: when Poland instituted martial law, they didn't go house to house looking for weapons. They didn't need to in order to crush any organized resistance.

They simply shut down the telephone system and took control of the airwaves. If nobody tells you the army is coming, then it's hard to mount much resistance.

All the guns in private hands in this country wouldn't put a dent in the government. Organization and surprise rest with the government.

Not to mention that the resistance would soon run out of ammunition, as well.

w, <<I'm an advocate for weapons training. I'm appalled at the implied level of ignorance about basic weapon capability displayed by some on this thread. I believe the solution is thorough and on-going training. No-one has commented on my suggestions from earlier posts. Check 'em out.>> Maybe we are appalled about your lack of common sense? The comments you have made don't convince me you learned very much in your training. Can you get a refund? You also come off as a smart ass, a little feedback. I'm not listening...

I agree with weapons training. I was trained by my father who not only grew up with weapons but was also an officer in Korea.

What kind of workable solution do you have with the 2nd?

I agree- let's get back on track.

For self defense a hand gun is the best. (Unless you live on a farm or ranch.)

As for arms for a free state-- I believe we should have assault weapons.

One question: You really trust the gov't?
