General Scanning Installs M310 Monolithic Trim System at Burr-Brown Corporation WATERTOWN, Mass., July 13 /PRNewswire/ -- General Scanning Inc. (NASDAQ:GSCN) today announced the first installation at Burr-Brown Corporation of Tucson, Arizona of its M310 Monolithic Trim System. Burr-Brown is a global supplier of proprietary high performance analog and mixed signal integrated circuits. The M310 Monolithic Trim System is an enabling technology that allows semiconductor manufacturers to produce precision linear and mixed signal devices on smaller geometry. Reduced die size provides the ability to produce the lower cost, smaller package size components that are driving the increase in new applications for mixed signal integrated circuits in the automotive, communications, consumer and personal computer industries. "We were looking for a laser trim solution to process our next generation product technologies and knew that the decision had to stand for many years." said Steve Tilden, Manager, Test & Measurement Technology, Components Division at Burr-Brown. "General Scanning related to our needs and developed the Universal Tester Interface to easily integrate the M31O with the tester part of the solution. We were most impressed by the depth of their commitment to our production success." Laser trim of precision linear and mixed signal semiconductor devices is a more cost effective process tool than traditional circuit adjustment alternatives, which place limits on the ability to reduce die size. The M31O lets the designers focus on increasing the functionality of new applications, rather than on the limitations presented by the process. "We developed the Universal Tester Interface not only to address the immediate applications but also to provide Burr-Brown with the flexibility to ensure the future success of their trim process," added Charles Winston, CEO of General Scanning. "We are pleased to add Burr-Brown to our growing customer base."
