Don, I've been completely out of SFAM since $28. (whew!) I recognize you as a long-time contributor to this thread. You remember when SFAM was $11 in 1996, don't you? I remember everyone talking about how cheap it was, below book value and all. I don't know if SFAM can go that low again because it has so much more cash on hand, but I certainly know how painful a semiconductor slump can be to cap equip makers. Nobody wants to be in this stock right now and won't for some time, IMO. I'll keep my eye on it, but I'd need to see the light at the end of the tunnel to even consider it again.

What happened to Mr. Sam, and what are his thoughts, I wonder?

Good luck,
David

Personally, I can't answer the $64 K question you pose. Lehman Bros. seems to think that SFAM is not losing market share to AMAT, but they have yet to update after this latest earnings announcement (or loss announcement whichever you prefer).

I still believe in the CMP story as a critically enabling technology for die shrinks (and for increased areal density in disk drives), however, it looks like for the time being most semiconductor manufacturers will not be upgrading their plant and equipment.

Anybody listen to the conference call? I'm interested in any forward looking statements they may have made.
