To answer your question on word latency.

I don't know this technology directly, however I'm
told that the VUI makes certain averaging
assumptions depending on the modality. This makes
the response appear quicker and more intelligent
in the "usual" average case.

So in this example, Portico is reading back an
email. You tell it to "Stop". The mere fact you
uttered any word tells Portico that you probably
want it to stop speaking for awhile. So it makes
this assumption while, in parallel, it parses your
command. It will then resume the read-back should
the command not indicate "Stop". But, in the usual
case, you *did* indeed want it to Stop. So Portico
anticipated this and stopped anyway, leading to
a seamless experience as you might expect from a
true human assistant.
