Readware comments... BTW, look for a revamped LOR FAQ after the holiday weekend. I have finally completed some major updates off-line.

============================

Globalstar has distributed a "Globalstar Q&A" sheet, which answers some questions about the use of the Zenit launch vehicle. It comes from Globalstar Telecommunications Limited, 600 Third Avenue, New York, NY 10016.

No-- the satcom mobile (note-- "mobile" )telephony systems are fixed in number. There will be no more-- the slots are filled. The Orbital news is about Constellation (located near us in fact), which is ECCO (in conjunction with a firm in the Netherlands). When Boeing decided to join with Ellipso, the next day or so later Orbital announced its affiliation with ECCO.

The Rostelsat system, which is partly LEO, will be providing intranet telephony-- that is not a mobile system. Skybridge will be offering intranet telephony also.

The secondary has been completed. This is movement that is unrelated to the secondary. A Merrill Lynch upgrade the other day helped, as will the Lehman upgrade today. The Merrill upgrade discussed a potentially important development. They talked about Loral buying Comsat's share of New Skies NV, the six sat company being carved out of Intelsat. They also mention the possibility of Loral getting part ownership in Intelsat itself eventually as they privatize. This is huge. Rememeber from a post long ago that Orion and Intelsat together control 65% of satellite internet traffic. Loral would also be able to offer a myriad of services worldwide with access to these sats.

Milestones?
--July 8 Zenit launch
--a firm date for the first G* Zenit launch
--continued gateway rollout/handset production
--what will we buy with that extra secondary money?
--closing of the Soros deal-there is a third party interested in a stake in G*(or increasing a stake), plus both Loral and Soros will likely buy more than the press release indicated
--As we approach September/October, it is time to start launching the GEOs like Telstar 6, SatMex5, Orion 3, Telstar 7
--C* begins service in the fall--is there a deal with @Home in their future?

I should clarify about the price movement relationship to the secondary. It is not a coincidence that the main underwriters are upgrading LOR after the secondary. In that sense, some of the price movement is related to "conveniently timed" upgrades.

In a short article on page A9 of today's Sacramento Bee, AP reports that the Customs Service is investigating Hughes Space Communications regarding their failure to disclose the full nature of work done by a Hughes employee whose father is a Chinese general.

Hopefully this will not spill over into Loral but in an election year most anything is possible.

I think its pretty clear that Pres. Clinton's boffo performance in China, delivered to an intially very hostile and skeptical U.S. inside the beltway audience, has made us Lor holders serveral points of money.

Thanks Bill. In your face sanctimonious moralistic rightists. <ggg>
