Summer holiday weekends have become synonymous with bargains, as retailers try to entice shoppers away from the beaches and into the stores with big discounts.
But some of the price-cutting may not be intentional Fourth of July sales at all. Some of it may be totally unintentional Year 2000 sales.

That's right. Although there are still 546 days until the year 2000, the millennium bug has already started disabling the world's computers.

but the real Y2K story might be on page B1, the SABRE reservation system
had its second blackout in a week.
Last Wednesday it was down for over three hours, yesterday it was down
for over four hours. SABRE is 7x24.... was 7x24. Welcome to Y2K.
Anyone wanna bet they're slamming in Y2K fixes, trying to beat the
clock. Hey, professionals are working on it.
