Another company on the horizon, profiled in July issue of Wired: VM Labs, which is designing a new multimedia chip. Some provocative quotes from article:

"We have a processor road map that takes us from 1500 mips today to 24,000 mips around the year 2000"

"VM Labs (wants to make) its system so easy to program that everyone will want to write software for it, and so versatile that it will run existing code with a few modifications. Doom's source code eas ported to run on the VM Labs chipset in just a couple of days by one programmer during his Christmas vacation"

"VM Labs ... believes that its chip is so powerful and versatile that it will establish a new hardware standard for entertainment that is vastly more attractive than anything that will run on Windows"

Who knows anything about this threat? Is it more vaporware? Or is it one of the reasons why so many insiders sold recently?

There is no link to post, as article is available only in hardcopy, to my knowledge.
