Dale,

Yeah, but how about when the no-names cost almost as much as the respected brand names. On a $1000 computer a $40 differential is not a big deal. The respected brand still means something. Right?

Yes Dale, (to some extent, I'll elaborate).

Something a lot of Intel investors seem to be missing that while price right now for the cheapest "decent" machines hoover around $1,000, it's not going to be long before the $500 PC and thereafter the $250 PC.

Now when you wanna do something really cool (video conferencing, digital video editing, etc.) you will blow the cash on a $3,000 system. However those people who are now buying $1,000-$1,500 systems and just surf the web will buy the $250 box when available.

It's like video games. There was a time when the only "good" action was found in the arcade.. now you have sega. The same type of thing is going to happen.

As someone else said Cyrix/NSM + Intel is not a zero-sum game. There is room for the two of them and they could be a _VERY_ effective "duo". Cyrix has the technology to _RULE_ the low-end and Intel _can_ dominate the high-end completely.. they can split the middle to middle-high and middle-low..

However if you mix the rest of the industry in there well.. I don't think AMD _WANTS_ to compete with NSM. They just are because of the market. AMD _WANTS_ to compete with Xeon's and the like. IDTI _WANTS_ to compete with Cyrix, but I think they are missing the boat. RISE, etal.. believe it when I see it.
