He wanted her to do housework and cook? What kind of demanding SOB was he?
What happened to passion, communion of the souls, fusion of like minds???

Christine and I have laughed at times at some of the messages we get from men who are entranced by our words or thoughts and see us as -I don't know-some sort of understanding and nurturing earth mother (me?) or sexy free spirit and intellectual(CGB). Sometimes they have wanted to somehow change us and own us. I wonder if they had to live with the mold in the showers that grew because we'd rather read poetry than scrub, or eat the strange meals that we devise according to our current creative energies or lack thereof? (We were very proud of our gummi bear presentations). Then would they find us so charming? I am soooo lucky that I have a husband who'll walk in and find me with a book and a cold oven and say, "Great, where would you like to go for dinner?" while I expound emotionally on how women need to get out from under "male judgment and domination."
Adrienne Rich writes about the myth of "special" women, token women.
She says that men tolerate, even romanticize these women (and this has happened to both CGB and me-and I'm sure many others here) as "special", but only as long as their words and actions don't threaten the man's privilege of tolerating or rejecting according to their ideas of what a woman ought to be.
Maybe your maid had a sad dream of someone seeing and accepting the "special" woman in her? Isn't that what we all search for?

Or heck, maybe she is just lazy and irritating.

Del, regarding the maid, how old is her child? Did she abandon the child when she ran off with her internet lover?
