I agree with your point, but one has to admit that 'parity of arms 'between the government and the citizens will not happen. So, is the 2nd amendment redundant? Is the security of a free state served better by other amendments e.g. 1st?

You forget that the majority of our military would not fire on US citizens... If it came to a war the majority of military would back the Constitution.

I have a lot of friends that are in the military (or retired) and they say the above behind closed doors...
