OCOM's real problem is their system doesn't function properly, as the company disclosed. Tough to sell. Price is irrelevant when the product does not function properly.

OCOM's other problem is that no one really wants video conferencing. Who wants to install a video conferencing system ($) and get ready for using it (time)?

Unlike a phone, it's not on your desk, and you have to go primp in order to get ready for it -- and what can you do in a video conference that you can't do in a conference call?

In this day of big corporate profits, if you need face time you just fly people out...there's no substitute in business for a power lunch and an insincere handshake. No one wants to stare at a TV with faces on it...it's creepy. Videoconferencing, to the average executive, feels like a typical nerd engineer solution to a problem he doesn't really have.

If it's still shortable Monday I will probably jump in. In fact, I'm beginning to convince myself that the whole industry is doomed. What other companies participate in this?

As digital bandwidth increases, eventually video conferencing will become a no-cost adjunct to a typical business PC, at which point applications will be found for it -- but no one will make any money because videoconferencing programs already exist and are trivial to write (assuming the bandwidth).
