False! Just because I said they misunderstood prophecies of the future that does not necessarily mean they misunderstood the words out of Jesus mouth when he spoke. They did a lot, but not always.

Steve, you're being inconsistent. You're choosing to believe that the Jews misunderstood and understood Jesus (Pbuh) when it best fits you. So you want me to believe the Jews misunderstood their own prophecy (even though the Hebrew text points to otherwise) and then understood Jesus (Pbuh) when they thought he claimed to be equal to God.

A few problems with this standpoint:

First, Jesus (Pbuh) continues to mention time after time that the Jews don't understand him.

John 8:27

They (the Jews) understood not that he spake to them of the Father

John 10:6

Jesus (Pbuh) used this figure of speech, but they (Jews) did not understand what he was telling them.

Luke 2:50

But they did not understand what he was telling them

And there are many more verses which show that Jesus (Pbuh) time after time told the Jews they did not understand him. And yet you want me to believe they understood him on this one point?

The second problem is that you give no proof or reason as to why we should interpret each verse differently. Why should we suspect the Jews misunderstood their own prophecies but understood Jesus (Pbuh)? Is it not true the only reason you apply this logic is because it best suits your standpoint?

What evidence is there for believing one verse should be interpreted one way and the next a different? Or is there any reason?

What's clear is that Jesus (Pbuh) mentions time after time the Jews MISunderstood him. To say they understood him on this one vital point goes against all that Jesus (Pbuh) said and is illogical. You are to have me believe Jesus (Pbuh) told the Jews they misunderstood him but he wasn't referring to the most important point of all (i.e. whether or not he was God)?
