Here is something to consider when talking about expanding the market with the sell expensive machines:

This is one time I really agree with Slater.

Steve,

Well let me put it to you this way. If you are so certain that the government of the US won't let an outsider buy NSM or AMD, when AMD or NSM go under their creditors will DEMAND that their patent and design portfolios be sold off and you can bet taht NEC and Co. will be bidding on them then!..

Well, I didn't mean to sound quite so certain. I live in America and I love my country, but our government is capable of some strange behavior. So while I don't think they would allow AMD or NSM to be sold outside the country I couldn't rule it out. The U.S. does have many export restrictions on technology. You are right though if things continue to deteriorate for AMD or NSM the comercial banks will demand patent and design portfolios be sold off. Intel would no doubt be willing to pay a premium. As a last resort Intel might be allowed to buy. It would be odd if my government disallowed Intel while allowing NEC, but then I couldn't even rule that out.

steve - < US won't let an outsider buy NSM or AMD>

I say, old boy, just why not? The bloody Germans used to own 20% of AMD and the booby boys in Washington didn't give a toot. If the Krauts want to own AMD again I'd bet a hundred sovereigns that Sanders will sell his soul for a few Deutsch Marks. 'Twould make the US "gummint" quite happy, I dare say, since they seem so hell bent for leather to trash the successful Yank companies such as Intel. You yanks always prefer to give away the store to the "furriner's" - Chrysler to Daimler - why not AMD to the Gerrys?
