Jacob, you said > it ought to be illegal to borrow more than the value of the house. <

While I care much more about the borrowers than the lenders,
it's not even good business to lend 125% of value for the
reasons you gave: in a downturn this could easily be much
more than 125%.

These lenders are creating a bubble!

Based on July 9 close----the EPSR's are as follows based on est June qtr sales annualized and est. cash on hand------ASYT 0.78 (proforma for HINE purchase)-----KLIC 0,75-----SFAM 1.25-----KLAC 1.77----- EGLS 1.14------FSII 0.77----SVGI 0.50 ----LRCX 0.84----TER 1.44 ----- BRKS 0.70 ----IPEC 1.36 ---CMOS 1.37 ---SMTL 0.76 ----NVLS 1.94 ----MTSN 0.46 ----COHU 0.88 ----PRIA 1.60 ----CYMI 3.60 ----ATRM 0.84 --- ATMI 2.54 ----. EPSR is defined as Stk Price less net cash (cash net of LTD)/qtrly annualized sales.-----Cash, net of all LTD, comprised the following % of the Stk Prices: AYST 31%(proforma), KLIC 24%, SFAM 51%, KLAC 29%, EGLS 52%, FSII 22%, SVGI 32%, AMAT 5%, LRCX nil, TER 2%, BRKS 57%, IPEC neg15%, CMOS 15%, SMTL 3%, NVLS 3%, MTSN 51%, COHU 21%, PRIA 14%, CYMI neg7%, ATRM 29% , ATMI 23% -------ASYT, KLIC, SFAM, LRCX, BRKS, IPEC and PRIA are all down 72-73$ from their 52 week high.-----Picking cash rich survivors and wait now seems the best approach instead of goriilla AMAT which is off only 47%. After all, if AMAT doubles, the cash rich decimated ones will triple.
