There is an article in Baron"s this week mn this topic. I believe it"s Yardeni"s opinion

The cognoscenti believe that there WILL NOT be a meltdown. The illuminati also believe this to be the case. It is not so difficult to test to see if you or your company is going to have a problem. Just set the date ahead to Dec 31, 1999 at 11:59 and wait and see what happens. Also you can see what happen to your report generation following the same tack.

So only fools and the inept should be caught by surprise on this thing.
However, given the number of gullible people out there, stock prices are likely to be lower on Dec 31 than they will be thereafter.

Re: Y2K

The world isn't coming to an end, as some would lead you to believe.

***OT**** The proposed measure is a bit too drastic.

John:
Though the Y2K thing is a real problem the remedy proposed sounds like a little too harsh.I think the first thing to do is to check with the respective brokers and the banks and see whether these folks will be Y2K compliant by early part of 1999,if not then it is a good idea to take some action by pulling the money out.But still there are no guarantee for a smooth sailing so we all will have to watch the developments closely and act accordingly in the months ahead particularly in the early part of 1999. These are some of the thoughts that came to mind and should in no way construed as anything other than that.

While fascinating, your question is Off-Topic ('OT')... Please seek answers in a more appropriate forum.
