As an investor i feel i can make more profit off AV as a separate company. As an investor I have no loyalty to Compaq. It is only a vechicle to increase my cash wealth.

Compaq limits Altavista's revenues by its ownership. It needs to be marketed to all comers for advertising revenues, including other PC makers. Take a look at Altavista's main page. It is almost devoid of advertising content. This has the potential to put $$$$ in CPQ's pocket. The business can be better managed separately. Shareholders should be up in arms, and should hold Compaq management accountable for not selling into a frothy internet ralley.
