Based on what I'm hearing and reading in the media, the "embedded" problems are quickly becoming the hot subject and the one scariest to most citizens. Lotsa news about how the power grids could go into total shutdown due to embedded glitches. The hopes of fixing them are low because many of the sources for replacement chips are long gone.

I think TPI is really trying to jump on this segment quickly, as evidenced by this morning's announcement. At this point, the Vertex deal is looking suspect. It's just getting too late for Vertex. It should be out of the alpha-beta stage by now. By the time they get it to market, there won't be enough engineers to implement it...besides, the embedded problems are starting to look the scariest. Sure, some of the banks will shut down because their computers are screwed, but it doesn't matter because the power grid will be down.

It's starting to look real bad for Y2K. I think the money is in embedded problems. TPI will make some money by providing services that scan for and detect Y2K problems in embedded systems, but I don't think anyone expects all these systems to be fixable. It's impossible.

I first got interested in TPI because of their legacy remediation work (which is nil right now). I'bve jumped from subject area to subject area. Now it's embedded systems.

I sold during the recent downturn and will stay on the sidelines for now.

But I'm still lurking because this thread is somewhat different than all the others on SI.
